Privacy Policy

CapStudio adds styled captions to short videos. Transcription, preview, and the final MP4 export all run in your browser, on your device. Your video files are never uploaded to us. We hold only the small amount of account and billing data described below.

CapStudio(the "operator") is the data controller for the limited personal data it processes. The operator is established in the Czech Republic (EU). For any privacy question or request, contact capstudio@duck.com.

• Account. If you sign in, we receive your email address and a Google account identifier through our authentication provider (Supabase). We use them only to sign you in and link your subscription.
• Billing. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We keep a Stripe customer reference and your license status (free, trialing, active, canceled) so we know what you can use.
• Project sync (Pro). If you have a paid plan and enable cloud sync, your project data (caption text and style settings) is stored in our database so it follows you across devices. Your video files are never part of this - they stay on your device.
• Usage analytics. We collect anonymous, aggregate usage stats (page views and a count of completed exports) through PostHog, hosted in the EU. This is cookieless and not tied to your identity. We do not profile you or track you across other websites.

We use a single essential cookie: the session cookie that keeps you signed in after you authenticate. It is required for the app to function. Our analytics is cookieless, and we use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies - so there is no cookie-consent banner to click through.

We process account and billing data to perform our contract with you (to provide and bill the service). We process security logs and anonymous, aggregate analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service reliable and improving it.

We do not sell your data. We share the minimum necessary with the processors that run the service: Supabase (authentication and database), Stripe (payments), PostHog (anonymous analytics, EU), and Vercel (hosting). Some processors (e.g. Stripe) may process data outside the EU under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Account and license data is kept while your account exists and for as long as needed to meet legal and accounting obligations. Analytics data is aggregate and not linked to you. Project data you sync is kept until you delete it or close your account. You can permanently close your account at any time from the account menu: this immediately and irreversibly removes your projects and license data and cancels any active subscription. You can also ask us to delete your data by email (see "Your rights").

Under the GDPR you can request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any right, email capstudio@duck.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (in the Czech Republic (EU), the Office for Personal Data Protection, ÚOOÚ).

CapStudio is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
